Teaching

As well as Akemi's teaching at Ardingly College, she has a programme of Gashuku (residential study retreats) in various parts of the UK and lessons and in London, 3 minutes on foot from Woolwich Arsenal railway station.

Japanese Language Gashuku - Residential Study Retreat
(Students of Japanese from beginners to intermediate)

Please join if you study Japanese. You will meet Japanese people of the same age who would like to have British friends, as well as other British people who are studying Japanese. Details of the next gashuku coming soon ...

People over 16 years old people can apply independently. However, if you are 14 or older, you can join with your friends or brothers or sisters, if they are over 16 years olds. Everyone who fits the age requirements is welcome to apply; however, all applications will be considered very carefully, in order to get the best balance of gender and ages. If your family members (mother, father, brother or sister) would like to stay without taking this course, they are welcome, too. They can enjoy other activities while you are studying. On the Saturday night we have a party including an original Japanese play, which each group will have written and practiced, and Japanese people will do cultural demonstrations.

*NB The teachers are fully insured via membership of the Association of Teachers & Lecturers.

Draft Programme:
Day One
Afternoon: Introductions and separating into classes after a quick level check
Warm-up game in Japanese
Supper together
Watching Anime movie of Miyazaki Hayao

Day Two
Morning: Japanese lesson
After lunch: Excursion to local place of interest
Late afternoon and after supper: Make the story of play in Japanese.
Practicing the words with the help of Japanese people.

Day Three
Morning : Japanese lesson
Afternoon: Excursion to local place of interest
Dinner, Japanese food eaten together, during which Japanese people teach table manners

Day Four
Morning: Japanese lesson
Afternoon: Visiting local market for shopping and lunch
Late afternoon: Practicing the words with the help of Japanese people.
After the competition of the play from each group in Japanese, we have a party. Japanese people will bring Japanese snacks and sweet for this party.

Day Five
After the breakfast we say farewell.
